Sukhum. July 24, 2020. Apsnypress. The Center for Agriculture and Rural Development (CARD) hosted the ceremony of awarding grants to the winners of the CARD competition, which was held within the framework of the joint program of the European Union and the United Nations Development Program for Rural Development (ENPARD).
In April 2020, the Center for Agricultural and Rural Development announced a competition for grants for projects aimed at developing agriculture. Individuals, initiative groups and individual entrepreneurs could participate in the competition. The amount of one grant varied from 300 thousand to 1 million rubles.
The head of CARD Zaur Guliya noted that there were several criteria for selecting projects, but the main ones were innovation, environmental friendliness and import substitution.
“A total of 77 project applications were received, of which 10 people received grants based on the monitoring results. The total cost of the projects is 8.6 million rubles,” he said.
ENPARD project manager Federica Dispenza, in turn, noted: “Grants and, in general, all the work that is being carried out within the framework of the UN Development Program in Abkhazia is aimed at empowering local entrepreneurs, helping the residents of Abkhazia to support themselves and develop sustainably. We believe that the resources that we were able to find in the difficult era of the pandemic will be effectively used and will help the country's entrepreneurs. The projects have a future, they are aimed at the long term ”.
Milana Jiba is one of those who received a grant for implementation of her idea: “My project is aimed at the production of farm-owned, organic dried fruits and pastilles from local fruits. They will be manufactured without added sugar, preservatives or colorings. I intend to popularize healthy food, and the project helps me with this. "
Grant recipients live and work in different regions of Abkhazia. Among the projects that have been awarded grants are the construction of innovative greenhouse complexes, the cultivation of fruits using new technologies, the creation of a mushroom farm, the use of refrigeration chambers to extend the timing of fruit sales, and much more.
