Comment by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia.
Sukhum. February 27. Apsnypress. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia commented on the statement by the Special Representative of the Prime Minister of Georgia for relations with Russia Zurab Abashidze, which he made in an interview with the Tbilisi television company «Starvision».
The commentary says:
"The Foreign Ministry of Abkhazia have read with amazement a statement by the Special Representative of the Prime Minister of Georgia for relations with Russia Zurab Abashidze, which he made in an interview with the Tbilisi television company «Starvision». Mr. Z. Abashidze expressed his "conviction" that Russia will sooner or later withdraw the recognition of independence of Abkhazia.
Of special affection are the attempts of Mr. Abashidze to try on the mantle of the prophet, and send in the right direction all the Russian policy towards Abkhazia, reversing the strategic nature of the Abkhaz-Russian partnership.
In thinking about Russian "right decisions" Mr. Abashidze is betrayed by own intuition and neglect of prevailing after the Georgian aggression in 2008 realities in Transcaucasia. Frankly willful rejection of the current situation in fact demonstrates yet smoldering hope of the Georgian side to some mythical withdrawal of the recognition of Abkhazia and its blatant fear of complete loss of the ability to somehow affect the relationship with the people of Abkhazia, instead of seeking to establish a constructive dialogue.
Meanwhile, adopted political decision by Russia in August 2008, after the brutal aggression of Georgia against South Ossetia was intended to provide a reliable guarantee of security of the people of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and prevent possible military adventures of Tbilisi authorities.
Russia's recognition of independence of Abkhazia has a great political significance for the Abkhaz people, becoming a milestone in their struggle for self-determination. Senior managers of the Russian Federation have repeatedly stated irrevocability of the decision, and it is absolutely senseless to expect a certain "turn" for the Georgian leadership. It is time to understand that the recognition of Abkhazia is not subject to revision.
However, instead of recognizing established in August 2008 the political realities and the conclusions with Abkhazia on the nonuse of force agreement, Georgia prefers to ignore the changes occurred and continues non-constructive policy aimed at the non-recognition of Abkhazia and international isolation. Intensified in recent Georgian-NATO contacts allow us to speak about the militarization of the region, and the desire to continue to support the aggressive revanchist moods in Georgian society.
We also can not not to mention the totally unfounded allegations of taking place in Abkhazia kidnappings and human rights abuses. Such stories retold in different versions by Georgian officials of various calibers, has no longer surprised Abkhazia.
Once again we urge the Georgian leaders to stop indulging in the illusions and make a sober look at the realities".
