Abkhazian scholars are saving a collection of 500 best varieties of tobacco by the annual reseeding

It has been 90 years since the introduction of the production of the state tobacco factory, opened on 16 February 1925 in Sukhum. Today, the activity of this industry is suspended.

On February 16, 1925 was commissioned the state tobacco factory. At the beginning of the production there worked more than a hundred workers. Factory production was very popular in the USSR and in many foreign countries, it received the recognition it deserves.

Today, tobacco production in Abkhazia is suspended. Now Abkhazian scholars are saving a collection of 500 best varieties of tobacco by the annual reseeding in the scientific research institute of agriculture ANA. The most famous varieties of collections - "Samsun-155", "Samsun-117", "Samsun-Apsny" and others.

"Every year we passaged the seeds to preserve the collection. If we go order, we will at any time be able to provide seeds. Abkhazia is a very profitable industry, especially today, when tobacco of good quality is a rarity", - said in an interview with our correspondent the director of Sukhum experimental farm of Tobacco of the Agricultural Research Institute ANA Anatoliy Bartsits.
