Appeal of the President to the people of Abkhazia

President of the Republic of Abkhazia Raul Khajimba addressed the people of Abkhazia.

 "Dear compatriots!
 
 The political stability that has emerged in our country, the desire for national consensus is the result of considerable efforts of all strata of society. At the initiative of the leadership of Abkhazia and with the mediation of the deputies of the Parliament, there was reached an agreement that could bring cooperation between the authorities and the opposition into a constructive channel. We dignified overcoming the danger of last December's confrontation, the country and the people have new chances to resolve the emerging problems through dialogue and reasonable compromises. However, judging by the current situation, this kind of development does not suit certain people who are interested in forcing tensions and destabilizing the situation at any cost.
 
 There have been in recent days the facts of arson and shelling of cars, attempts of blackmail and threats against certain candidates for deputies. Law enforcement agencies take the necessary measures to investigate unlawful acts, identify persons involved in criminal activities.
 
 Supporters of individual candidates use dirty technology, put pressure on voters for the sake of achieving the goal. They do not abhor anything, they use bribery, lies, misinformation against unwanted competitors.
 
Personal selfish interests and political ambitions are beyond the fundamental values ​​for which our people put the lives of their sons and daughters on the altar of the Victory.
 
 As head of state I appeal to all citizens of the Republic of Abkhazia not to succumb to all kinds of adventures and provocations, to resist the actions of those who for the sake of their own interests are ready to plunge the country into chaos and lawlessness.
 
 The leadership of Abkhazia will do everything necessary to ensure that the elections to the Parliament be calm calm, civilized, in compliance with the Constitution, the legislation of our republic, generally accepted democratic norms.
 
I am confident that we will adequately overcome one more important stage in the construction of our sovereign state!"
