“Dear Sukhum residents!

Congratulations on City Day! City Day is our common holiday - everyone who works here, studies, grows, dreams, lives and loves their small Motherland.

Sukhum is a modern and comfortable city - the capital, effectively strengthening the status of the cultural and tourist center of Abkhazia. This is one of the oldest cities in the world, whose history has two thousand five hundred years. A city with a long history, who saw Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman rule, changing its name from Dioscuria to Sukhum-Kale. The history of any city is rich, and in Sukhum, due to its unique climate and geographical location, it is replete with all sorts of bright and interesting events.

Over the past years, Sukhum has changed, become more comfortable.

It is for you, dear residents of the capital, I want to express my gratitude for many years of honest work  for the benefit of prosperity of the capital.

I express special gratitude to the veterans of the War of Abkhazia, who gave our capital a peaceful sky. Thanks to all those who restored our city in the post-war years. The selfless labor of many generations of Sukhum residents created the city as it is today.

With their daily creative work, Sukhum residents lay the foundation for new achievements, take an active part in life of the capital and offer their solutions to the most pressing urban issues, forming the agenda for tomorrow.

We are sincerely proud of the past and successful present of our capital. Together we confidently look to the future and, I am convinced, we will do everything for the further prosperity of our beloved city.
