Aslan Bzhaniya on the changes to Constitution: our steps will be balanced and thoughtful

Sukhum. 3 July. Apsnypress. At the online press conference of NA Interfax, the Head of State commented on his participation in vote on approval of amendments to the Constitution of Russia.

President of Abkhazia Aslan Bzhaniya emphasized: “Citizenship implies certain obligations to the state. I am a citizen of Abkhazia, but I also have Russian citizenship, and my duty to take part in socio-political events that take place in the Russian Federation. This is a very important issue, and I considered it necessary, as a citizen, to come and vote. As far as I understand, we are talking about strengthening state institutions, in the end, this mechanism is aimed at improving the quality of life of citizens of the Russian Federation. "

Moreover, Bzhaniya noted: “We have long been talking about the need to amend the Constitution of the Republic of Abkhazia. A commission was created to amend the Constitution of the Republic of Abkhazia, there are a number of proposals, we will study them and implement them as necessary. In my opinion, there will be certain changes in our Constitution. But I do not think that this will happen in the next six months, most likely in 2021. We are talking about the redistribution of powers between the branches of government, about strengthening the role of the Parliament. We will involve experts and legal scholars so that the changes that are supposed to be introduced into the Constitution will help solve a number of problems. We have experience when we made changes, but there were no expected results. I don’t think it’s correct to take such a path, so our steps will be balanced and thoughtful. ”
