Attempts to divide the multinational people of Abkhazia play a beneficial role for our enemies

Statement by the press service of the President of the Republic of Abkhazia.

 The statement, in particular, says:

 "Recently in Gagra , at one of the meetings of the veterans of the War of Abkhazia, there were voiced statements that caused a wide public resonance in our society. They were based on one of the worst phenomena of our civilization - nationalism. This is the trouble that becoming a state ideology in some countries, led them to collapse, condemning the peoples to suffering. Suffice it to recall the tragedy that occurred in the middle of the 20th century - the Second World War, which killed millions of innocent people. Its main reason became the ideology of the Fuhrer, based on nationalism. We know perfectly what this led to. But even at the end of the twentieth century, ignoring this sad experience, the Georgian leadership armed with this vicious ideology, unleashed a war putting our people to the brink of destruction. Only the courage and perseverance of the multinational people of Abkhazia have broken the situation, which has always differed in national and religious tolerance. It would be a huge and unpardonable mistake to equate patriotism with nationalism, there is a deep gulf between them. In the first - love for your country, in the second - hatred of all others. Attempts to divide our multinational people play only the benefit for our enemies. Abkhazia is our common home, our fortress and our hearth. We will not let it be destroyed from the inside.
  
 We have something to be proud of and what to show the world. Our people have come a long way, and this path was by no means easy. We were illuminated by the hope for a bright future for our children, and love for the Motherland gave us strength. Our life is still full of trials. But armed with hatred we will not build anything, but approach the edge of the abyss. No one will allow this".
