Chairman of the State Committee on Ecology will participate in the Geneva discussions

Saveliy Chitanava has joined the Abkhazian delegation at the XXXIV Round of Geneva Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia.

One of the issues on the agenda of the next round of Geneva talks - is an ecological security of the region, in particular, the threat of invasive species of insects, told Apsnypress Chairman of the State Committee on Ecology and Nature Protection Savely Chitanava.

«Vyacheslav Chirikba announced our problem with moth in the Geneva talks, and European specialists have offered their help. They have already visited Abkhazia, we exchanged experiences in dealing with this threat. Now I want to ask our European colleagues to provide technical assistance ", - said chitanava.

According to him, the main problem in the fight against pest this year was precisely the lack of specialized equipment:" We had to use all the techniques available in the the disposal of the Ministry of Agriculture. In Europe, there are units that can be sprayed with a jet of medication to a height of 20 meters and a width of 40-45 meters, they can greatly facilitate us to fight the moth".

In addition, the chief ecologist of the country is planning to discuss the threats and other types of pests that have infiltrated from Europe in Sochi. In total, there are twenty species. "I want to ask them for help in the organization of the laboratory for the study of invasive insects. We are talking about the ecological security of the region ", - said the ecologist.

In Abkhazia, there are about 5000 hectares of boxwood, and about 1,500 of them are exposed by moth.
