First Georgian-Abkhazian collisions took place 26 years ago in Sukhum and elsewhere in Abkhazia

Sukhum. July 16. Apsnypress. 26 years since the events of July 1989 have passed. 15 - 16 July 1989 in Sukhum and elsewhere in Abkhazia took the Georgian-Abkhazian armed collisions, a result of anti-Abkhazian campaign launched by extremist Georgian leaders. 

In an interview with "Apsnypress" ASU rector, academician Aleko Gvaramia, recalling the events of that day noticed that in the wake of the nationalist movement was expected that the collisions would start from the university. "Their goal was clear. Our team and all sensible people in Abkhazia came to the defense of the university. Everyone understood that this is only the beginning of the suppression of Abkhazia as an intermediate goal - the nationalists achieved separation of the University. It was already clear that war was inevitable, and it happened. To the honor of our people and all others who cared about our fate, Abkhazia became an independent and recognized state ", - said the academician Gvaramia.
