Foreign Minister: EU policy in the South Caucasus remains detached from the political reality that has developed since 2008
Comment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia.

Sukhum. January 29. Apsnypress. Foreign Minister of the Republic of Abkhazia commented on the statement of the newly elected President of the PACE Pedro Agramunt, who in his inaugural speech noted the need for further discussion of frozen conflicts in the post-Soviet space. In particular, in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, which, in his opinion, represent a serious threat to European security.

"Unfortunately, once again we have the opportunity to ensure the absolute bias of European diplomacy with regard to the processes associated with post-conflict situation in South Caucasus. New PACE President in his speech reiterated the immutability of the general policy of the European Union, which is based on the unconditional support of the position of the Georgian side on issues related to the settlement of relations with Abkhazia and South Ossetia. With great disappointment we have to once again state that EU policy for the South Caucasus remains detached from the political reality that has developed since 2008.

The Abkhaz side fully shares the concern of the President of the PACE in relation to security in the region, but the threat that comes from the long-term security policy of Georgia to destabilize the situation in this sensitive region of Europe. We emphasize that Georgia many years serves as the main destabilizing factor impeding the peaceful resolution of international conflicts.

Georgia is the initiator of an armed aggression against Abkhazia in the last two decades. The Georgian leadership has unleashed a full-scale military aggression in Abkhazia in 1992-1993. And continues to carry out military operations, including with the use of terrorist methods of struggle, in 1998, 2001, 2006 and 2008, Georgia have managed to stop armed provocations only thanks to the strengthening of military cooperation with the Russian side, in particular, as a result of the Russian-Abkhaz agreement on joint protection of the state border with Georgia.

Thus, the threat to security in the region is based solely on Georgia and its provocative and aggressive policy towards neighboring countries and peoples.

We note with regret that the efforts of the many European institutions in the process of conflict resolution in the South Caucasus have always been one-sided and aimed solely at supporting position, in this case the Georgian side. It should be added that the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia, their presence in the region has not made any positive developments in the settlement of the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict ", - the comment.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia calls on PACE and other European organizations "to reconsider its long-outdated, one-sided approach to the parties of the conflict". And also "rethink their policies on the basis of existing in the South Caucasus political realities".
