Foreign Ministry of Abkhazia about the UN Resolution

Sukhum. June 5. Apsnypress. "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia considers the proposed by members of the UN General Assembly the Georgian draft resolution which is politically motivated and says that the support of such a document in a number of countries once again demonstrates the lack of an impartial approach to address humanitarian issues and will in no way contribute to confidence-building between the Georgian, Abkhaz and South Ossetian sides. Presented resolution could seriously complicate the course of the Geneva Discussions on Transcaucasia, and has one goal - to score points in the propaganda war of Georgia against Abkhazia and South Ossetia. 

Voting results clearly showed the lack of support of the resolution by an absolute majority of the world, reflecting the reluctance of these countries to be drawn into political games of Tbilisi and negates the significance of such a one-sided resolution. 

Moreover, neither the Abkhaz nor the South Ossetian side have not been given the opportunity to present their vision of the problems that affect them directly in front of the delegations of the General Assembly in New York on the eve of the voting, which deprives the vote in favor of the resolution presented by Georgia objectivity. It also once again advertise undisguised desire of Georgia to use the rostrum of the United Nations to achieve political goals that have nothing to do with the solution of humanitarian problems. 

Given the above, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared that this pro-Georgian resolution distorts the prevailing political realities in the region and does not take into account the views of all stakeholders, underlining its clear commitment and political bankruptcy".
