According to First Deputy Minister of Education and Science Dmitry Gvaramia, due to the fact that it would be difficult for teachers of Gal district to learn Abkhazian language for such a short time, it was decided to transfer the educational program into Russian. Also, the Ministry of Education adopted measures to improve the quality of teaching of Abkhazian language and literature in four of the eleven schools in the lower zone of Gal district.
"These measures are due to the fact that the Georgian educational program, which forms the educational process in schools of the Gal district of Abkhazia, contrary to the national interests and prevents the integration of residents of Gal district in the cultural space of the Republic. In making this decision we took into account the rights and interests of the residents. Because most of them are native speakers of Mingrelian, learning the Georgian language only hampered the learning process for students",- said in an interview with "Apsnypress" Gvaramia.
At the same time, he stressed that educational programs in schools should be in accordance with standards established by Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Abkhazia. Thus, the Georgian textbooks, which contain facts that contradict political reality, will be removed from the educational program of Gal schools.
