Fund "Akua" proposes to declare 2016 - A Year of Sukhum

"Guys from the fund met with the head of the Administration. It was about the fact that they will give us every assistance in this matter. Head instructed me to deal with this matter closely, establish a working group which should include representatives of political organizations, public funds, the clergy, historians and legal community", - said the deputy head of the administration Temur Tkebuchava. He noted that all issues are needed to be addressed as soon as possible to have time to lay in the budget expenses for the celebration of the town for the following year. 

"Initially, we must determine the date, and the following year for the first time celebration of the Day of the town of Sukhum. I hope that soon our beautiful town with a long history, which is at least 2500 years, finally acquire its deserved day", - he said. He also mentioned the tradition dedicated to the City Day in other countries: "There is such a thing as an honorary citizen in many cities and towns around the world . We must develop the relevant provision of the title of "honorary citizen" of Sukhum and in the Day of the town relevant commission will identify him. Honorary citizen will have different privileges and benefits, as a rule exemption from utility payments, free travel on public transport, the right to participate in the celebrations which holds the town and so on. 

Speaking about the possible date of the Day of the Town, the deputy head of the Administration said that all parties working on the issue agree that the holiday should take place in summer.    

"Summer is a time when all of our students studying outside Abkhazia come home and can participate in the celebration, and there are a lot of visitors in the capital in summer, we want them to see this holiday", - he said.    

Director of the Development Foundation of the town "Akua", Deputy Foreign Minister Kan Taniya believes that the celebration of the town shall go into the fine tradition and help to attach residents to create, to help to learn more about the town and its history. He also noted that the fund has the idea to declare 2016 - A Year of Sukhum. "So our people will learn more about the town and get deep feelings of love", - he stressed.
