On the 49th round of Geneva International Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasus.
Sukhum. October 9. Apsnypress. The 49th round of Geneva International Discussions on Security and Stability in the Transcaucasus was attended by representatives of the Republic of Abkhazia, the Republic of South Ossetia, Georgia, the Russian Federation and the United States under the co-chairmanship of the UN, OSCE and the EU.
The delegation of the Republic of Abkhazia, headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Daur Kove includes Deputy Foreign Minister Irakli Tuzhba, Deputy Chairman of the State Security Service Vladimir Arlan, Employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia Lasha Avidzba and Arthur Gaguliya.
The main attention of participants of theround was focused on escalation of tension on the Georgian-South Ossetian border, which arose as a result of provocative actions of the Georgian side, which unilaterally put up an additional checkpoint in the immediate vicinity of the South Ossetian village Tsnelis.
All participants noted the need for an early resolution of situation exclusively by peaceful means, through negotiations and compromises. Representatives of Abkhazia, South Ossetia and the Russian Federation assigned all responsibility for aggravating the situation and possible further escalation on the Georgian-South Ossetian border to the Georgian authorities.
In addition, participants from Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Russia paid serious attention of all those present to the need to agree on a text of a joint oral statement on the non-use of force, the adoption of which would serve as a good basis for further dialogue aimed at achieving peace and stability in the region.
Unfortunately, once again, representatives of Georgia and the United States failed to take a constructive approach to solving existing problems and refused to discuss the text of the joint oral statement. As a result, it was decided to postpone the discussion of this issue to the next round, which will be held on December 10-11, 2019.
