Geographic map of the Caucasus of 1683 was donated to the Abkhaz State University

Four maps of the Caucasus, the earliest of which dates from 1683 year, were donated to the Abkhazian State University by MFA representative of Abkhazia in Italy and San Marino, Professor Mauro Murgia.

Originals of the donated maps dating from 1683, 1828, 1854 and 1885, will be deposited in the archives of the University, and copies will be available for students to study and for academic work.

According Murgia, maps were acquired by him in one of the oldest antique shops of London. In his opinion, the most interesting of the map view - ethnographic map of the XIX century, which contains Abkhazia.

"The special value of the mapss today is that they are originals", - said the candidate of historical sciences Rezo Katsiya.

Rector of the Abkhaz State University, academician Aleko Gvaramia thanked Italian friend for such a valuable gift to researchers.

"On these maps we can see what defended our scientists", - said Gvaramia.
