July 23 - National Flag Day

Sukhum. July 23. Apsnypress. The modern national flag of Abkhazia has been approved by the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Abkhazia on July 23,  1992, after the decision on the termination of the Constitution of the Abkhaz ASSR of 1978 and restoration of the Constitution of the Abkhaz SSR 1925. 

"A lot of memories of how this flag was created, but it is important that it appeared at the right time, becoming a symbol of the national liberation movement- Gennady Alamia. The flag appeared at a time when we were still in the Parliament together with the Georgian side. I remember the day when the flag was submitted for approval to Parliament. It was necessary to look not at the flag itself, but the emotions that it caused. On that day there was a crisis in people's minds. The enemies of our independence shaken the foundation of the theory of the inviolability of the territorial integrity of Georgia, and those who do not doubt that we will achieve freedom and independence, added determination. 

"According to Alamiya, the author  of the flag Valery Gamgiya managed to reflect the entire history of our state. 

"Later this principle laid the basis for the creation of the anthem. It is all national. Nothing has been invented, everything was in ancient times. Mentioned deity protecting our earth, friendship with our brothers and most important lines "Шәнеибац, шәнеибац, аҧсуаа рыҷкәынцәа", appeal that always sounded on our land when it was expecting trouble from their enemies, and, I believe, gave strength to reflect attack". 

"The flag was sewn and tailored by mother Guli Kichba, during the war many women knitted and sewn flag  from pieces of cloth and put it in the pockets of our children. I am pleased that our nation celebrates Flag Day very touching. I remember 23 years ago, Harlam Simonia on horseback accompanied by our elders brought the flag. Our eyes were full with tears, people rejoiced. Now the flag especially dear to me because it was won by our Holy Victory, under this flag our children went to the war".
