The Coordination Council of Russian compatriots in the Russian community of Abkhazia congratulated the multinational people of the republic on the 7th anniversary of the recognition of the Republic of Abkhazia as an independent state by the Russian Federation.

"Independence Day - a holiday, which occupies an important place in the history of the two countries. On August 26, 2008 Russia once again demonstrated allegiance to the friendship between Abkhazia and Russia, which developed over the centuries.
The people of Abkhazia fought long 20 years for independence and this day had became possible thanks to those who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of their country. Republic has proved its viability and ability to build and develop the state system, democratic institutions and civil society.
Russia's recognition of Abkhazia's independence demands from all of us a great responsibility to the friendly country. We are confident that the multinational people of Abkhazia overcoming difficulties will build a civilized and prosperous state, which will enable its recognition by other countries.
