Plastic bank cards will only work on the territory of Abkhazia

At the session of the National Assembly of the Parliament of the Republic of Abkhazia the Head of the National Bank of Abkhazia Beslan Barateliya told Mps about the progress of the issuance on the territory of Abkhazia bank cards.

According to him, back in 2010 the National Bank of the Republic of Abkhazia was to get a loan for the development of the Russian payment system in 500 million rubles. Of these, only 200 million rubles have been mastered: established processing center (server), which is ready to serve customers. But the server is empty - no cardholders or terminals on their service. At the same time is approaching loan repayment, and the national payment system still does not work. Therefore, in the near future, it is decided to introduce a limited number of cardholders, about 10 thousand people, they may become state employees and retirees (with their consent). And also buy about 250 ATMs and install them in the shops, banks and hotels. If the system itself can demonstrate it in the future it will be able to expand.

"Debit cards will only work while on the territory of Abkhazia. But soon it is planned to sign the Agreement on their use in Russia", - said Beslan Barateliya. This is partly due to objective reasons, as in Russia, until recently, there was no national payment system, used only card "Visa" and "MasterCard." Abkhazia, for obvious reasons, could not enter the international payment system. Today the Russian system has already been created. So, it's up to the Agreement with the Russian Federation.
