President: national press, television and radio are successfully meeting the challenging task of strengthening the international image of Abkhazia

President Raul Khajimba congratulated members of the media on the Day of national press and media of Abkhazia.

 I warmly congratulate you on your professional holiday - the Day of the national press and media of the Republic of Abkhazia!
 
  Your weighty words, professionalism, ability to reveal the essence of topical and urgent problems, a positive impact on public opinion, on the development and establishment of our independent state.
 
 The national press, whose origins date back to the first issue of the first Abkhaz newspaper "Apsny" TV and radio are successfully meeting the challenging task of strengthening the international image of Abkhazia and protection of national interests.
 
 Patriotic journalism in its development has gone through several difficult stages. During the national liberation movement the staff confronted the media information propaganda against the people of Abkhazia. Risking their lives, journalists, war correspondents and cameramen remained true to their profession during the War of Abkhazia in 1992-1993.
 
 We believe one of the main constitutional achievements of our people - freedom of speech and the right of every citizen to access to information. And our media work is marked by significant achievements in this direction. It is gratifying that the ranks of experienced journalists, publicists, editorial staff supplemented by qualified personnel.
 
 I would like to reaffirm my commitment to a policy of openness and publicity. The government will continue to seek opportunities to support the work of media professionals.
