Address by President Raul Khadjimba in connection with the 23rd anniversary of the start of the War of Abkhazia.
Sukhum. August 14. Apsnypress.
Dear compatriots! Dear veterans!
On this day we remember the heroism of our people, the courage of the soldiers, who defended Apsny from Georgian aggression.
We mark the prominent role of the national leader Vladislav Ardzinba, who had assumed an enormous responsibility for the destiny of the motherland and to justify the faith and support of our people.
Already in the second day of the war, on August 15 to help the people of Abkhazia came the first group of volunteers, led by Sultan Sosnaliev, which merged with the Abkhaz brothers in an invincible powerful fist.
Glorious sons and daughters of Abkhazia and fellow volunteers, who did not return from the battlefields will remain forever in people's memory. 14 of August is certainly tragic, but at the same time, it was the start point of a powerful upsurge of the Abkhaz people that by heavy losses conquered their freedom.
The memory of the war and its victims, respect for the veterans and for the heroism of our multinational people are the most important foundations of building a stable and secure future for the present and new generations of citizens of Abkhazia. Let independent Republic of Abkhazia be thriving! Peace and good to our courageous people!
