Sukhum. August 14. Apsnypress. President Raul Khajimba addressed the people of the Republic of Abkhazia in connection with the 26th anniversary of the beginning of the War of Abkhazia of 1992-1993.
  
 "Dear compatriots! Dear veterans! 
  
 26 years ago a bloody war began in Abkhazia, it took thousands of lives. On this sorrowful day we remember those who defended our right to life, the peaceful sky above our heads and the future of our children.
 
 People of all nationalities, living both in Abkhazia and abroad, rose to defend our Motherland. Courage, bravery and fearlessness of our soldiers brought victory in the war of independence. The feat of defenders of the Fatherland will always remain in the people's memory.
   
 On this day we also honor the memory of our first President, Commander-in-Chief Vladislav Ardzinba. Thanks to his outstanding abilities and strength of spirit, the people united in the face of danger, rose to defend the Motherland and won in an unequal battle.
