President: the provisions laid down in the Act on State Independence are reflected in the internal political course of Abkhazia and all its actions in the international arena

18 years ago, on October 12, 1999, the National Assembly of the Parliament of the Republic of Abkhazia - adopted the Act on State Independence of the Republic of Abkhazia.

Sukhum. October 12. Apsnypress. The significance and role of the historical document in the life of the Abkhazian state was commented by President of the Republic of Abkhazia Raul Khajimba.

 The head of state, in particular, said:

 "The adoption of this document was due to historical necessity. The Act on State Independence enshrined the provisions of the Constitution adopted on November 26, 1994, as well as the results of a nationwide referendum held on October 3, 1999, at which virtually all residents of the republic voted for a sovereign, democratic, lawful state.

 Thus, our people once again confirmed their determination to continue the construction of an independent state. On this difficult road, Abkhazia had to face serious trials, and the people of the republic accepted them with honor and dignity.

 The provisions laid down in the Act on State Independence are reflected in the internal political course of Abkhazia and all its actions in the international arena. Contrary to numerous difficulties, the desire and historical right of our people to build a sovereign state has received official international recognition, first of all, by the Russian Federation, as well as by number of countries that followed its example.

 Today our country is an internationally recognized, sovereign state that actively develops external relations. Much remains to be done to ensure a happy life for every citizen. And it is necessary to do this by uniting all together. Then, the aspirations of our people will be fully realized, including those that have been consolidated in historical documents."
