Sukhum. July 23. Apsnypress. President of the Republic of Abkhazia Raul Khadzhimba congratulated the people of Abkhazia on the State Flag Day.
 
 The message says:
 
 “Dear compatriots!
 
 I sincerely congratulate you on a wonderful holiday - the Day of the National Flag! This date occupies a special place in the modern political history of our independent state.
 
 For centuries, worthy leaders of our people passed from hand to hand the Abkhaz banners of different eras, symbolizing the unity, freedom, heroism and resilience of our people.
 
 Despite the extremely tense of social and political situation, on July 23, 1992, the Supreme Council of Abkhazia, headed by prominent national leader Vladislav Ardzinba, approved the State Flag and the State Emblem of the Republic of Abkhazia. This was one of the most significant steps on the thorny path of restoring national statehood.
 
 The work of the outstanding Abkhaz artist, one of the leaders of the national liberation movement Valeriy Gamgiya, became a bright embodiment of our nation’s dream of freedom and independence for centuries.
 
 Valorous defenders of Apsny engaged in a fierce clash with the Georgian aggressors, swearing allegiance to the National Flag!
 
 Let the holy flag soaked with the blood of its brave sons and daughters fly over free Abkhazia! Peace and prosperity to our Motherland! Happy National Flag Day, dear compatriots! ”
