Address by President Raul Khadjimba in connection with the 24th anniversary of the start of the War of Abkhazia.

 "Dear compatriots! Dear veterans!
 
 Today is the 24th anniversary of the War of Abkhazia. On this tragic day, we honor the memory of soldiers who selflessly and courageously defended the freedom of Apsny. The feat of the sons and daughters of Abkhazia, the volunteers who came to help us, will forever remain in the memory of the people.
 
 August 14 is a tragic day in the history of Abkhazia, but it is also a day of unity, not only the people of Abkhazia, but also volunteers from the North Caucasus and southern Russia with the one goal - liberation of Apsny of the Georgian invaders.   

 Today, we also honor the memory of our first Commander Vladislav Ardzinba, who assumed responsibility for the fate of the country and the people, with whom people of Abkhazia won the war for independence. The memory of the War of Abkhazia, respect for veterans and feat of fearless people will forever remain in our hearts, handed down from generation to generation as an important basis of modern, stable and secure state. Thanks to the courage and bravery shown in the difficult days of the war, thanks to the intrepidity of our soldiers - we defended our land. We passed a difficult way, we lost the best of us.
