Previous law "On Civil Status" opens doors for a lot of abuse - Khadjimba

The head of state is sure that there will be the right decision for the adoption of amendments to the Law "On Civil Status".

At a press conference with the media, RA President Raul Khadjimba made a clarification in the question of amendments to the Law "On Civil Status", recently discussed in the Parliament of the Republic of Abkhazia. "It's a sore subject, - said Khadjimba. - The fact that the previously adopted the Law "On Civil Status", which says that the state registration of changes nationality allows you to change nationality on the basis of a conscious decision of the citizen. But whether it was done? Then it turns out that any person living in Abkhazia, of any nationality can just go and change his nationality. That, in practice, are the odds with the Constitution, which states that the President of the Republic of Abkhazia can only be a citizen of the Abkhazian nationality".

According to him, such a law "opens the door" for many abuses. "Today will be a meeting with the deputies, and I hope that there will be taken proper and adequate decision on this issue", - said the President of Abkhazia.
