RA Foreign Ministry on Agile Spirit military exercises: they negatively affect the security of all neighboring countries without exception and are destabilizing

The foreign ministry of Abkhazia believes that the partners of Georgia should recognize the erroneousness and possible explosive consequences of such exercises.

Sukhum. July 30. Apsnypress. Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia expressed serious concern about the conduct of the 2019 Agile Spirit multinational military exercises in Georgia, which began on July 27 and will last until August 9.
 
 “These exercises negatively affect the security of all neighboring countries without exception and are destabilizing. Once again, Georgia and its Western patrons demonstrate an open commitment to militarization, which does not fit into the ongoing efforts to develop confidence-building measures in the region. Such a destructive policy directly threatens the national security of the Republic of Abkhazia, as well as violates the foundations of security and stability in the South Caucasus. The universally declared readiness of Georgia to de-escalate tensions and reduce the risks of military activities has long required practical confirmation, ”the Abkhaz Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
 
 The foreign ministry of Abkhazia believes that Georgia’s partners need to recognize the erroneousness and possible explosive consequences of such exercises, and also learn to be aware that such actions are fueling the revanchist sentiments of the Georgian “hawks” and are capable of jeopardizing the attempts to establish a civilized interstate dialogue.
 
“The Republic of Abkhazia intends to put the issue of deliberate escalation of tension on the agenda of the next round of the Geneva discussions on security and stability in the South Caucasus,” the RA MFA said.
