RA MFA: Georgia's western friends, who are pushing it to NATO, do not want to recognize the lessons of the recent past

Comment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia.

Sukhum. October 12. Apsnypress. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia commented on the resolution on strengthening stability and security in the Black Sea region adopted in Bucharest.

 "The annual session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly held in Bucharest adopted a resolution on strengthening stability and security in the Black Sea region. The members of the Assembly, in particular, expressed "firm support for Georgia in the process of Euro-Atlantic integration". The resolution calls on governments and parliaments of the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance "to continue strategic discussions with Georgia on security in the Black Sea, to expand Georgia's participation in NATO activities and to promote political decisions aimed at the next steps to implement the 2008 Bucharest summit decision." In addition, the resolution repeats stamps on the "occupation of Georgian territories", violations of human rights, etc.

 The adoption of the above resolution, with persistent calls for Tbilisi to intensify its integration with the North Atlantic Alliance is a matter of serious concern. The Republic of Abkhazia well remembers that four months after the NATO summit in Bucharest in April 2008, Georgia unleashed a bloodbath in South Ossetia. If it were not for the maniacal desire of Georgia to join NATO and the encouragement of this venture from its patrons, it is possible that the tragedy in South Ossetia would have been avoided.

 We have to state that Western friends of Georgia, who are pushing it to NATO with all their might, do not want to recognize the lessons of the recent past. While encouraging Tbilisi to join this military bloc, the leaders of Western countries do not realize that they actually promote the growth of aggression and intolerance in the Georgian leadership and society.
  
   The Republic of Abkhazia has no illusions about the true intentions of the Georgian side and is taking the necessary measures to strengthen defense and security. After the recognition of sovereignty of the Republic of Abkhazia in 2008 by the Russian Federation, the relations between the two countries are regulated by official bilateral agreements, including in the military sphere. The agreements in the military sphere are aimed at ensuring the defense and security of Abkhazia and in no way affect Georgia. Regularly replicas of the Georgian side and its friends in the West stamps on the "occupation of Georgian territories" are simply meaningless.

 Speaking in words for strengthening stability and security, the leaders of Georgia and their Western friends in essence continue the vicious course to increase the propaganda hysteria, which in no way contributes to a productive dialogue, and negates all the efforts made by the parties in the framework of the Geneva international discussions.

 The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia again appeals to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly with to remain neutral in the adoption of such kind of documents. "
