The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia commented on the statement of the State Duma deputy Leonid Kalashnikov.
Sukhum. November 17. Apsnypress. The Abkhaz Foreign Ministry comments, in particular:
"In an interview to "RIA Novosti" deputy of the State Duma Leonid Kalashnikov said that the solution of the territorial issue in Moldova may be an example for Ukraine and Georgia. "If Moldova is to reach resolution of the territorial conflicts in Transnistria, determined by the type of its confederation, at the same time will develop relations with Russia, it is a blueprint of the decision in Georgia and Ukraine", - L. Kalashnikov said.
We consider it necessary to note that such a claim could only make a person new to the history and current political realities of mentioned conflicts. The people of Abkhazia for a long time fought for its ethnic survival, which could be achieved only within the framework of a sovereign state. In 1993, Abkhazian people defended their right to build an independent state by the cost of enormous casualties in a bloody war with the Georgian State Council troops. The legal basis for the creation of a new state was the adoption of the Constitution in 1994 by the Parliament, according to which the Republic of Abkhazia was proclaimed a sovereign independent state, subject to international law.
The Constitution had popular support at the referendum in 1999 at which the vast majority of citizens of Abkhazia approved the first article of the Constitution, declaring Abkhazia as a sovereign state. Adopted by the Parliament Act summed up the process of registration of the independent status of the Republic of Abkhazia and put an end to discussions about the possibility of creating a "common state" with Georgia.
The recognition of Abkhazian independence by the Russian Federation in 2008, legitimized its sovereign status. It should be emphasized that the top leadership of the Russian Federation in the person of Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev have repeatedly stressed that the decision to recognize the independence of the Republic of Abkhazia is not negotiable and retroactive.
In connection with this conclusions of Mr. Kalashnikov are very negative and unprofessional, his unfounded statements cast doubt on the decisions taken by the highest leadership of the Russian Federation.
We hope that the State Duma deputy Leonid Kalashnikov make the right conclusions from the current situation and will continue to try to avoid such a rash and imprudent statements about the status of the Republic of Abkhazia.
In turn, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia intends to distribute this statement among the leadership of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and the leadership of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, a member of which is Mr. Kalashnikov, to take the necessary measures to prevent such statements from the current State Duma".
