RA MFA: we are ready to build equal relations with all partners showing respect for the sovereignty of Abkhazia

Commentary by RA MFA.

Sukhum. July 13. Apsnypress. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia commented on the statement of ROO “Aruaa.”

  The commentary says: “As is known, Aruaa NGO issued a statement calling on the current President of the Republic of Abkhazia, Aslan Bzhaniya, to provide additional clarifications regarding his vision of further prospects for building relations with Georgia.

We would like to recall that over the years, relations between our countries have been characterized by tough antagonism, which periodically took the form of open armed confrontation. Currently, the Republic of Abkhazia is deprived of any opportunities to defend its national interests in the international arena. We are not represented in major international organizations such as the UN, OSCE, Council of Europe and many others. The only valid international format in which the representatives of the Republic of Abkhazia participate equally is the Geneva International Discussion on Security and Stability in the Transcaucasus. This site was created on the initiative of presidents of Russia and France through the mediation of international organizations such as the UN, EU and OSCE.

At the same time, many socio-political figures of Abkhazia are skeptical of this international format, referring to the fact that there are no significant shifts. However, the main task of the Geneva discussions on security and stability in the Caucasus is to find compromise solutions for the subsequent signing of an agreement between the Republic of Abkhazia and the Republic of Georgia on international guarantees of the non-use of force against each other. Ensuring the safety of our citizens is task No. 1, and we act on the basis of this particular postulate. It is unlikely that these common truths need to be proved domestically.

Based on the foregoing, we affirm that the signing of an agreement with Georgia that excludes the resumption of hostilities, the guarantor of which will be reputable international organizations, is a priority task of the foreign policy of the Republic of Abkhazia at this historical stage. President of the Republic of Abkhazia clearly reflected these theses during recent press conferences. In the future, President also intends to firmly adhere to these principles in order to uphold the interests of the Republic of Abkhazia at any international sites. We proceed from the fact that the Republic of Abkhazia is a sovereign independent state whose political status is enshrined in the Constitution and is not subject to revision under any circumstances. At the same time, we adhere to the principle of openness and willingness to build full and equal relations with all interested partners who share similar approaches and show respect for the sovereignty of Abkhazia. ”
