Raul Khadjimba congratulated the people of Abkhazia on the Day of international recognition of the Republic of Abkhazia

"Dear compatriots! 

I heartily congratulate you on this wonderful holiday - the Day of the international recognition of the Republic of Abkhazia! 

Seven years ago, on August 26, 2008, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree on the recognition of the Republic of Abkhazia as a sovereign and independent state. The international status of Abkhazia is much appreciated, and the political and legal realities in the Caucasus has undergone significant changes. Having a difficult but correct decision to recognize Abkhazia and South Ossetia, Russia has reasserted its status as a world superpower. 

The dream of the people of Abkhazia about the international recognition of its statehood has become true, it was won by courage, blood and everyday work of our citizens. "Every day spent by us, every thing we have done, anyway brings us closer to the day of recognition", - said the founder of the Abkhazian state, Vladislav Ardzinba, who already in the 1990s foresaw the inevitability of recognition of the Republic of Abkhazia by the Russian Federation. 

Recognition provided accelerated development of Abkhazia with the support and assistance of the Russian Federation. Much has been done to establish full-Abkhaz-Russian relations. To this day, it is actively developing the juridical base of Russian-Abkhaz cooperation, spreading economic and humanitarian relations, deepening cooperation in the field of defense and security. After the conclusion of the alliance and strategic partnership Abkhaz-Russian relations have reached a qualitatively new level, which fully meets the interests of the peoples of Abkhazia and Russia. 

Today we face the challenge of accelerated socio-economic development, comprehensive strengthening of public institutions, the modernization of all spheres of society. It should be reached within a few years an acceptable level of self-financing, to strengthen defense and security, to achieve the most important statement of the rule of law. This is also necessary to ensure that the Republic of Abkhazia could act as a full and responsible ally of Russia in international politics, as well as the more reason to apply for recognition of other countries. 

I am confident that the efforts of our state, our common efforts, supported by the Russian Federation, will lead to important and meaningful results of the citizens of Abkhazia. 

We all must succeed!
