Raul Khajimba proposed to create an Interparliamentary Group of Friends of Abkhazia

President of the Republic of Abkhazia met with the delegation of the Republic of Nauru under the leadership of President Baron Divavesi Vaca.

Sukhum. 12 November. Apsnypress. President of the Republic of Abkhazia Raul Khajimba and President of the Republic of Nauru Baron Divavesi Vaca met in the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Abkhazia in an expanded format. 

 Welcoming the guests, Raul Khajimba noted: "This is an important event for us. Relations between the Republic of Nauru and the Republic of Abkhazia are of a long-term nature. Our diplomatic relations were established in December 2009, several delegations from Nauru came to Abkhazia on a working visit. We were able to make sure that we are building good, trustful, partnership relations that allow creating conditions for a greater understanding of Abkhazia in the international arena. I have no doubt that these relations will develop and strengthen in accordance with the Treaty on Friendship and Cooperation between the Republic of Nauru and the Republic of Abkhazia, which was signed in 2016. I wish that these relations were long-term."  

  At the same time, Raul Khajimba took the initiative: "In the absence of diplomatic relations with other states of the Pacific Basin, I consider it possible, if it is acceptable for your part, to create an Interparliamentary Friendship Group between the Republic of Abkhazia and the Republic of Nauru, or the Group of Friends of Abkhazia, which include Nauru, Vanuatu and Tuvalu. Such a group could lobby the interests of Abkhazia in this region. We are well aware that recognition is a slow process, but the opportunities for lobbying interests through such structures will allow building relations at the level of humanitarian, and economic with a number of states. I also consider it possible to build relations with the Pacific Islands Forum, which includes Nauru. This will give more information about Abkhazia in the region. "
 
 In addition, President of Abkhazia thanked the leadership of the Republic of Nauru and the Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ms. Marlene Moses for support during discussions on the topic of refugees in the UN General Assembly. "Unfortunately, Abkhazia does not yet have the opportunity to represent its position on this site. But our friends give us the opportunity to talk and inform the world community about the situation in Abkhazia, " - said Raul Khajimba.
 
For his part, Baron Divavesi Vaca said that this visit is aimed at demonstrating the commitment of the Republic of Nauru to the principles of friendship and solidarity between the two peoples. "You can count on us as a reliable partner, as a strong side, which will support you. We intend to lobby further your interests and the process of recognition of Abkhazia, " - President of Nauru noted.
