Skorik: first case of coronavirus infection in Abkhazia is confirmed

Sukhum. April 7. Apsnypress. The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of the Republic of Abkhazia today confirmed that the first coronavirus infection COVID-19 case in Abkhazia was registered in Gagra. This was announced at the site of the Operational Headquarters for Protection of Population from COVID-19 by the chief sanitary doctor Lyudmila Skorik.  
 
As Skorik said: “The patient is hospitalized and isolated, currently in a satisfactory condition. The patient arrived from Moscow, where he was on a business trip. Patient admitted to Gudauta Hospital is provided with full medical care. Gudauta Hospital is provided with qualified personnel and special equipment.
 
 In addition, according to Skorik, the relevant services of the Republic of Abkhazia are taking measures to prevent the spread of infection. The State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of the Republic of Abkhazia, through the territorial SES, is conducting an in-depth investigation to obtain all the information and track the contacts of the infected person to determine if there are still infected and sick people.
 
 Skorik emphasizes: “This case of coronavirus disease was not unexpected in our country, and in the future we can witness more cases of the disease, as the country's residents most often neglected the requirements that were voiced in the documents of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic, by the orders of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, by acting President of Abkhazia.
 
 Currently, the RA Ministry of Health and Social Welfare is taking all necessary measures to identify and test suspicious cases in order to help infected people, to ensure measures to prevent further spread of the virus and to alert the public.
 
 At the same time, the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of the Republic of Abkhazia once again reminded everyone who recently visited a country or city in which cases of COVID-19 were registered, who have a fever and cough, call the hotline and provide this information, as well as about need to stay at home, and if necessary in severe cases seek medical help.
