The Foreign Ministry held consultations on the upcoming 41st round of the Geneva discussions

The meeting with the co-chairs of international Geneva discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia was held at the RA MFA.

Dmitry Basariya. There were held consultations with the co-chairs of the international Geneva discussions on security and stability in the Caucasus on the upcoming 41st round of the Geneva discussions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia, during a meeting.

 Welcoming the representatives of the UN, the OSCE and the EU, RA Foreign Minister Daur Kove said: "I hope that the upcoming round of the Geneva discussions will be productive. I hope that we will be able to reach the goal these events are dedicated to."

 At the same time, Kove expressed his concern about the joint exercises of NATO and the Georgian armed forces: "We are alarmed by the activation of military exercises on the territory of Georgia. It is impossible not to note that two large exercises were held in Georgia in the past 3 months. These military actions cause serious concern for us against the background of the fact that the Georgian side persistently refuses to sign an agreement on the non-use of force. "

 In turn, the UN representative Antti Turunen, thanking the Abkhaz side for the warm welcome, said: "We also hope that the Geneva discussions will achieve their main task - preventing conflicts in the region. So far we see that work in this direction is yielding good results, since the situation in the region is peaceful. We take into account that in more detailed consideration active military exercises taking place in the region, threaten the existing peaceful situation. In the light of which the program of the Geneva discussions on security in Transcaucasia becomes more urgent. "
 
 At the same time, Antti Turunen stressed: "The Geneva discussions are a flexible diplomatic format, so we need to continue discussing humanitarian and environmental programs on this site."
   
 The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia noted that the Abkhaz side is also concerned with the issues of environmental safety, which they will be offered for discussion in Geneva. "The issues of ecology have acquired a regional character, so we call for paying special attention to this problem," - he said.
