The memory of our heroes obliges us to protect the freedom of our homeland

Sukhum. August 14. Apsnypress. The text of the statement reads: 

"Today have passed 23 years from the date of the beginning of the War of Abkhazia. 

Day of August 14 1992, when the Georgian aggressors attacked our country, will go down in the history of our people, as one of the most tragic days. At the same time, this day is a symbol of courage and bravery, selfless love for the motherland. Under the leadership of the national leader Vladislav Ardzinba sons and daughters of Abkhazia entered into an unequal battle with the invaders. From the first day Georgian occupiers felt the full commitment of our people at all costs to defend the freedom of their native land. 

413 days and nights of fierce battles for the liberation of Abkhazia. Defenders of the Motherland, united in Gumista division and Eastern Front to avenge for the death of our children, the elderly, for each dead soldier, burnt and destroyed towns and villages. 

September 30, 1993, expelling Georgian occupants fromAbkhazia, our people gained freedom and has restored its statehood.    

Today we bow to the memory of thousands of sons and daughters of Abkhazia sacrificed their young lives for freedom of Apsny, in memory of volunteers from the fraternal republics of the North Caucasus, Southern Russia, and other regions, representatives of our diaspora. The memory of our heroes obliges us to defend the freedom of our homeland, to build and develop the Abkhazian state, independence of which we get by a very high price".
