Sukhum. December 15. Apsnypress. The 38th round of Geneva Discussions was focused on the work on elaboration of a joint statement of commitment to the non-use of force, which would be an important step towards signing a legally binding agreement on the non-use of force between Georgia and Abkhazia, Georgia and South Ossetia as the main objective of the Geneva discussions.
In the opening remarks of the two working groups, the Abkhaz diplomats offered all participants of the Geneva discussions to commemorate those killed in the tragedy of Lata of December 14, 1992.
They discussed such important issues of the Republic of Abkhazia, as the problem of non-recognition of the vital documents issued in Abkhazia (birth certificate, high school diploma, diploma of higher education, etc.), biased politicized reports of EU structures and the OSCE in the field of human rights violations in Abkhazia, quarterly reports of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia in the sphere of human rights in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, the incident involving inappropriate reaction of Georgia to insert access to the Turkish newspaper "Sabah" dedicated to the Republic of Abkhazia, situation with the crossing of state border with Georgia through the checkpoint Inguri, intensification of the military partnership of NATO and Georgia, ongoing efforts of the international isolation of the citizens of the Republic of Abkhazia, and much more.
Representatives of the Republic of Abkhazia also gave samples of foreign and diplomatic passports to the co-chairs of the International Geneva Discussions to further substantive discussion of possibility of recognizing them as travel documents, as well as an appropriate letter to the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Ms. Federica Mogherini for assistance in resolving this important humanitarian issue.
When discussing the draft of a joint statement of commitment to the non-use of force all the parties, with the exception of Georgia were ready to agree with a draft statement proposed by the co-chairs, but because of the unconstructive approach of the Georgian delegation its adoption was disrupted.
At the beginning of the discussion of refugee problem in the second working group on humanitarian issues, the Abkhaz, Russian and South Ossetian delegations in protest left the hall.
A follow-39th Round of Geneva Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia is scheduled for 28-29 March 2017.
