The Treaty on Friendship and Cooperation between the Republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia was signed 12 years ago

"The signing of the Treaty was a historic event, which brought to a new level the process of rapprochement of the two fraternal peoples and deepening of the comprehensive cooperation of our states," - the RA MFA noted.

It is 12th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the Republic of Abkhazia and the Republic of South Ossetia, which marked a new stage of Abkhaz-South Ossetian cooperation.  The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia commented on the importance of the adopted document.

 "The signing of the Treaty was a historic event, which brought to a new level the process of rapprochement between the two fraternal peoples and deepening the comprehensive cooperation of our states.

 This fateful act symbolized the inviolability of the centuries-old brotherhood. It embodied the aspiration of the Abkhaz and South Ossetian peoples to build their lives together on a solid foundation of spiritual unity and common human destinies, striving for effective economic and social development.

 The treaty strengthened the positive tendencies of the Abkhaz-South Ossetian partnership, and also became a system-forming element and a reliable basis for the stable development of bilateral relations.

 Today our states cooperate in the field of international relations, render each other support in strengthening national security and sovereignty, which is an important factor for ensuring stability in the region.

 We are convinced that the implementation of the potential laid down in the Treaty will serve to further deepening and expanding Abkhaz-South Ossetian cooperation in the political, economic, military-technical, humanitarian and other spheres, and will promote even closer coordination of the foreign policy efforts of our countries in the international arena.
 
 We reaffirm our commitment to the development of fraternal ties with the Republic of South Ossetia in accordance with the letter and spirit of the Treaty and the entire legal framework of the Abkhaz-South Ossetian relations."
