Volunteer Day in Sukhum

Sukhum. August 15. Apsnypress. 23 years ago on August 15, 1992, the first group of volunteers arrived in Abkhazia, headed by Chairman of the Committee of the Confederation of Mountain Peoples Sultan Sosnaliev Caucasus, who soon became the chief of defense staff. 

Today in Sukhum, volunteer-veterans of the War of Abkhazia, who came from Kabardino-Balkaria, Chechnya, North and South Ossetia to pay tribute to fallen comrades to the Memorial in the Park of Glory. The delegation was accompanied by Vice President Vitaly Gabniya, First Deputy Prime Minister Shamil Adzynba, government members, representatives of the State Committee for Repatriation, mothers of dead Abkhaz soldiers, women who throughout the war worked in the headquarters of the Confederation. 

Health Minister, Commander of the Order of Leon Andzor Goov wished all peace. He said that he came to the war in Abkhazia on 21 August 1992. 

"We heard that there is a trouble in Abkhazia and decided to help. On August 15 came my younger brother, and on 19 my middle brother", - said Goov. 

Volunteer from Chechnya, Commander of the Order of Leon Vahid Cherimov said he came because he could not do otherwise, "When I heard that the Abkhaz people suffered from Georgian aggressors, I came to help my Abkhazian brothers to defend their freedom".

After the wreath-laying ceremony volunteers were awarded departmental awards of the Defense Ministry of Abkhazia - the medal "20 Years of Victory in the War of Abkhazia".
